Burnham Week

The Jewel of the East Coast Sailing Calendar

Late August — annually since the 1890s

Burnham Week is the highlight of the East Coast sailing season and one of the oldest offshore racing regattas in Britain. Held every August since the 1890s, it draws hundreds of yachts and thousands of spectators to the River Crouch for five days of racing, social events, and waterfront celebrations.

The regatta is organised by the Royal Corinthian Yacht Club and the Royal Burnham Yacht Club, and attracts competitors from across the UK and Europe. Racing takes place on the river and in the estuary, with classes ranging from classic wooden yachts to modern racing machines.

Ashore, the town comes alive with live music, pop-up bars, street food, and a festive atmosphere that makes Burnham Week as much a social occasion as a sporting one. The quayside is packed from morning to night, and accommodation books up months in advance.
